Currently, there is no cure for HIV infection or AIDS. However, with the combined use of antiretroviral drugs and the drugs to prevent opportunistic infections, many people with HIV infection and AIDS have improved the quality of their lives and delayed or reversed the progression of HIV infection to AIDS.

Care and support are important to facilitate immediate access to treatment when a person is diagnosed with HIV; Apart from the medical support and treatment, people who are diagnosed with HIV would most probably need social and psychological support as many of them could be devastated with the diagnosis and need counselling and information about how to live their life positively with this new reality.
